The first ODI between Ireland and Sri Lanka in Edinburgh has been abandoned without a ball bowled.

The two teams are joined by Scotland in a tri-series that spans from Monday to Wednesday but the series is yet to get underway after heavy rain overnight in the Scottish capital.

The umpires were hopeful of getting the game underway in the afternoon, but a shower shortly after midday put pay to such hopes.

A pitch inspection was conducted at 14:30 local time at which point it was decided that the outfield and bowler's run-ups were too wet for any play to take place.

Ireland face their hosts, Scotland, in the second match of the series on Tuesday.
