Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq lamented his team's batting performance after they were bowled out 130 runs short of England's 260 in the first ODI in Abi Dhabi on Monday.
After winning the Test series three-nil, the Pakistan side were heavy favourites coming into the match, but failed to lived up to the reputation leaving Misbah concerned.
"I think our batting is a matter of concern for us - 260 wasn't a big score here," he said.
"I know that batting under lights is difficult here, but it's just a matter of handling the new ball and then I think it is not so difficult because of the dew factor.
"We have to do a bit of disciplined batting, especially against the new ball. It was a very good wicket."
The 37-year-old believes Alastair Cook's elegant knock of 137 proved the difference between the two sides and rejected the notion that the Pakistanis were complacent in their approach.
"We thought that they are a good side and could come back at any time," he added.
"Their captain led the team by example. It was a very good innings of 137 and I think that was the key for them. Then I think they bowled really well.
"It was just a bad day (for us), one bad performance, and we want to come back and do the basics right. It's really important for us to come back in this series."
