Captain Mahela Jayawardene on Monday insisted Sri Lanka won't underestimate an Indian XI void of the services of captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni come Tuesday's ODI clash in Brisbane.
Dhoni has been suspended for one match after India were fined for a second minor over-rate offence within a year during the seventh match of the ODI tri-series against Australia on Sunday.
India, who took a full four hours to bowl their 50 overs, were ruled to be two overs short of their target at the end of the match when time allowances were taken into consideration.
Match referee Andy Pycroft imposed a 40 percent fine on Dhoni, while each of his players received fines of 20 percent.
As this was India's second minor over-rate offence after they were fined for a slow over-rate in last year's World Cup finali, Dhoni has also been suspended from the fixture against Jayawardene's team.
The third-highest run-scorer of the series, behind team-mate Gautam Gambhir and Australia's David Hussey, the right-handed Dhoni will be sorely missed by an Indian unit looking to trump a Sri Lankan team sporting three points less than them in the tri-series standings.
"Dhoni is in good form and he is a match-winner. But they have also got some really big players. We can't be complacent. We will focus on the entire Indian team and try and execute a good gameplan. I think we didn't have a good start but we have improved as a team in every game," said Jayawardene.
"Our guys have been bowling pretty well. They are hitting good areas and adjusting to different surfaces so I feel they will give their best on this wicket as well."
Wicketkeeper-batsman Dhoni top-scored for his side in Sunday's match against Australia, but his 56 was not enough to stave off a 110-run defeat at the hands of the Australians, who rode to triumph on the back of half-centuries from Michael Hussey and Peter Forrest and a five-wicket haul from Ben Hilfenhaus.
Jayawardene looked forward to handing India their second straight defeat, provided whatever combination Sri Lanka decide one is able to gel as a unit. Meanwhile, rain across Brisbane seems set to mar the match, but the Sri Lankan captain refused to make any assumptions based on some potentially inclement weather.
"It's a great opportunity for us and like I said, our goal is to get into the finals. There are four games left and rather than waiting for the results, if we can control our destiny, then that's what we need to do," he added.
"We try to make tactical changes to see what fits for us. We made a move to make sure we got a good start, which we never had in the first few games. That seems to work but you never know. I will see how it goes.
"I have heard a few stories about the weather but like I said, these are things I can't control, so we will just have a good game plan and try and execute that. If the weather intervenes, we will change our game plan accordingly. But before the game starts, we can't think anything so just go with a clear head and try and execute a good game plan."
Virender Sehwag or Gautam Gambhir is expected to captain India in Dhoni's absence, while Parthiv Patel is likely to be deployed as the side's wicketkeeper-batsman.
