New Zealand have lost the services of skipper Ross Taylor for the entire limited-overs leg of South Africa's visit.
Initially ruled out of the three Twenty20 Internationals after suffering a calf strain while batting against Zimbabwe recently, the right-hander has now been sidelined from the three ODIs too.
Brendon McCullum, who on Friday led the Black Caps to a six-wicket win in the first T20I, will continue to captain the side in Taylor's absence.
"Although Ross is making good progress with his rehabilitation from the calf injury he has not recovered sufficiently to return for the ODI series against South Africa," said team physiotherapist Paul Close.
Taylor's ailment leaves him in a fitness race ahead of the three-Test series against the Proteas, which gets underway in Dunedin on 7 March.
"He has started running and is ready to have a bat in the nets. He is on track to return to international cricket in time for the Test series," added Close.
